Overview
Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest represent only a few of the highlights of this epic bike tour! Your trans-Central European cycling adventure will showcase the cultural and natural diversity of these four countries, once united by the former Habsburg empire.
The first part of your incredible Western AND Eastern European bike tour follows the popular Greenways trail, and from Vienna to Budapest, you will follow the Eurovelo 6, the Danube cycle path. The majority of this experience is in an area that is relatively off the radar. It is an escape from the norm and the crowds but still offers the varied scenery, architecture, and art that the mainstream destinations highlight. An added benefit: reasonable prices and an extraordinary network of well-marked bike trails!
We offer this tour in two versions, one with all biking or shorter distances with train/car transfers.
Highlights
- Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest - four capitals, four cultures
- Telč, Mikulov, Esztergom, Györ, hidden gems along the way
- Czech Beer, Austrian Schnitzel and Sacher Cake, Slovakian Halusky, Hungarian Goulash - just a few local specialities
- Podyjí NP, Iron Curtain Trails
We have other bike tours in the Czech Republic to interest you or a comprehensive list of bike tours along the Danube.

Extra Info
Skill Level — Moderate
This tour is rated moderate. There are days of flat terrain that generally have longer distances of 70 km (44 miles). On the days between Prague and Moravia, the route is hillier but not demanding. The Czech Republic is full of ups and downs but you are rewarded with wonderful scenery. Please note that if you would like shorter or longer distances, this can be arranged.
Airport Info
The closest major airport to Prague, Czech Republic is Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG). This airport is 19 km from the center of Prague. Closest airport to Budapest, Hungary is Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD) some 25 km away from city center.
Local Travel
From Prague Airport, there are several options for arrival to the city center by either public transportation or by taxi. Please ask us for details. At the end of the tour, if you fly out of Budapest, regular trains, operated by Hungarian State Railways, run from central Budapest to Budapest Nyugati Railway Station (journey time: under 30 minutes; fare: Ft 320). The 200 E bus links the station to Terminals 2A and 2B during the day, while bus 900 links the airport and the station at night. Taxis are also a very practical and convenient option for local transportation.
Climate
Please check local conditions before you arrival.
Day of Rest
Extra night in Prague before the tour start. We can book this if required. Please note: If you decide to book your own hotel, an additional €20 per booking administration fee will apply. We recommend using one of our standard partner hotels as our route description, GPS files, maps, etc. starts from there. Otherwise, we require a hotel with 24/7 reception + bike storage room. We do not accept Air B&B accommodation and it will be your responsibility on Day 1 to find your way by bike to the route starting point.
Remarks
If you would like shorter/longer biking distances, or to make some changes to the itinerary, feel free to ask us for tailor-made tour!
Important to know
Documents
It is each traveler's responsibility to ensure that you are in compliance with the country or countries you plan to visit. This includes and is not limited to passport validity, visa requirements and acquisition, blank passport pages required for your destination (s), etc.
US citizens: A good website to research the requirements of the Schengen Agreement and entry into other countries is travel.state.gov.
Non-EU and EU residents: Please research the requirements of your country of residence for international travel and your destination country or countries.
*Important note: Please check on the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) status as once implemented, this will be required to visit any of the 26 Schengen-member countries for tourism, business, medical, or transit. This is an additional check on security rather than a visa.Tour Operator
