Landmannalaugar
The Pearl of the Highlands
We will depart from Reykjavík and by bus head for the geothermal area Landmannalaugar, often called Pearl of the Central Highlands. The journey continues through the beautiful countryside of southern Iceland. We'll proceed into the highland by exploring Þjórsárdalur, a valley where the longest glacier river in Iceland runs through and with beautiful surroundings.

Landmannalaugar has many interesting sights to offer, including extremely colorful mountains due to volcanic activity. After enjoying a relaxing bath in a natural hot spring, the tour continues towards the west in the direction of the country's most infamous and very active volcano, Hekla. Its frequent eruptions have left thick layers of ash in the landscape where the hardy miniature plants fight for their existence. Soon after having passed the pumice mines near the volcano the main road system takes over and after a short refreshment stop in the horticultural town Hveragerði, the capital greets us again.
