Central Greek Aegean

Greece Bike + Boat Tour

Central Greek Aegean from Bodrum

On this cycling vacation, you will explore the sunny islands of the Greek Aegean and stay aboard a comfortable Turkish Gulet. Although the tour begins in Turkey, all the islands that  will be visited are part of Greece. These islands are  magical and mystical, rich in history and legends. This is a world  where the sun is painting its pictures and the sea is providing life. Join this tour and sail the Greek Aegean, relax in idyllic bays, enjoy the wonderful views and follow the traces of a moving and glorious past. You will visit the the famous Asclipion, where the well known doctor Hippocrates practiced. We dive into the atmosphere of the holy island of Patmos or admire the wonderful panoramas on your bicycle tour there.

Skill Level

Moderate, guided tour. The bike routes require a basic level of fitness, ideally acquired by frequent biking. The routes reach an altitude of 200 – 400 metres. The roads are mostly asphalted and take place on lightly trafficked roads as much as possible. The daily biking distances range from 9 to 19 miles (15 to 30 km). Routes cover hilly and mountainous terrain but can be completed without time restraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where you may want to push your bike. The tour guides will inform you about the course of the tour in due time. You always have the option to cycle individually or with other participants, using the maps provided. This would give you time to take photographs, explore flora and fauna or other sites at your leisure.

SUNDAY: Island of Kos, 13 mi. (22 km)
Before lunch we cross over to Kos. The first cycle trip begins here and will lead us through green fields to Tingaki Beach, where we will have the opportunity to have our first swim in the Aegean. After our return to Kos town our boat will bring us to the neighbouring island of Kalymnos, where we stay overnight in the main harbor of Pothia.

MONDAY: Island of  Leros, 23 mi. (38 km)
Leros is green, varied and always offers new and surprising views and many small harbors. A cycle trip in the morning will lead to the fort of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem in Agia Marina and into the small laneways of the town. After an espresso break in the idyllic harbor of the town, it is on to the seaside chapel of Agios Isidoros. In the afternoon you will cross over to the island of Kos, and an evening guided tour will be offered. We will be confronted with the ancient history of the town at every step

TUESDAY: Island of  Patmos and Lipsi, 9 mi. (16 km)
On a short  but picturesque ride, the tour leads to Patmos (Jerusalem of the Aegean). It was on this island that St John wrote his divinely inspired Revelations, the last book of the New Testament. The historic village of Chorá is filled with meandering white alleys and many churches and chapels, the most famous being  the Monastery of Saint John "the Theologian".  Also interesting is  the Cave of the Apocalypse where St. John the Apostle had visions.  After lunch on board, there is a cruise to Lispi, with its quiet beaches, inviting a long swim break.  Here, there is a wonderful bakery that will entice with its aroma.

WEDNESDAY: Island of Kalymnos, 25 mi. (41 km)
First on the agenda is a cruise to Kalymnos and then to begin cycling from Port Pothia along a scenic coastal route, through a lush green valley to the fishing village of Vathi, a mountain pass then leads to the other side of the island where lunch will be enjoyed. In the afternoon, there will be enough time to explore Pothia and the old town.

THURSDAY: Island of Kos, 27 mi. (44 km)
The cycling tour today leads through varied landscapes, mostly along the coast and partly through the impressive mountains of Kos and the island's capital. Along the way, you will enjoy a long lunch break in the old Greek mountain village of Zia.

FRIDAY: Island of Kos, 6 mi. (10 km)
In the morning we will take a cycle trip to the world famous archaeological excavation site of the Asclipion, where Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, practiced. From here we will travel on to Zia, an old Greek mountain village, which tempts us to stay with its numerous, cosy taverns. Later on our boat will take you back to Bodrum.
