Southern Coast of Turkey from Marmaris to Fethiye

Spend a week discovering the Southern Coast of Turkey from Marmaris to Fethiye by bike and on a luxurious Turkish gullet (ship). This charming and stylish floating accommodation is built to the highest of standards. You will get to know the Turkish coast and back-country between Marmaris and Fethiye with the aid of a trekking or mountain bike. The tour guide will point out the unique natural wonders and historical cities which grace the area, allowing you to be transported back in time.

Admire the famous graves of Kaunos, which were cut into the cliffs between 4 and 2 BC by the Lykian coastal inhabitants, or let yourself be mesmerized by the breathtaking Sakklikent Canyon. Spend your evenings in the deserted bays and let yourself be rocked to sleep by the ocean or make the most of the pulsating night life in the port cities and their many cafes and bars.

Moderate to Difficult- guided bike & boat tour

Moderate to Difficult. It is recommended you be in good physical shape ideally acquired by daily or frequent biking. Daily distances range anywhere from 22 to 34 miles (35 to 55 km) and take you through partly hilly or mountainous terrain. There will also be extended climbs. Most routes are paved and take place on lightly trafficked roads as much as possible. You can choose to spend a whole or half-day on board the boat whenever you want.

  1. Arrival in Marmaris.
  2. Marmaris – Sarsala, 22 mi. (35 km)
  3. Sarsala – Fethiye, 19 mi. (30 km)
  4. Fethiye – Göcek, 25 mi. (40 km)
  5. Göcek – Dalyan, 25 mi. (40 km)
  6. Dalyan – Ekincik, 19 mi. (30 km)
  7. Ekincik – Marmaris, 34 mi. (55 km)
  8. Departure.

*All distances are approximate. The above planned itinerary is subject to change due to changing wind and weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances having to do with mooring requirements, etc.

SATURDAY: Arrival in Marmaris.
Fly into the airport of Izmir or Dalaman and be transferred to Marmaris. Check in on board from 2 pm.  After dinner enjoy an evening stroll through the city‘s labyrinth of winding streets.

SUNDAY: Marmaris – Sarsala, 22 mi. (35 km)
Ship ahoy! A short two-hour cruise brings you to a picturesque swimming bay. From here you  will traverse by bike approximately 250 m high past in the Dalaman plain, en route to Sarsala, a quiet bay in which to overnight.

MONDAY: Sarsala – Fethiye, 19 mi. (30 km)
 Enjoy a breakfast sail to Fethiye, passing many small islands on the way.  A bike-tour through the pine forest leads to  the uninhabited ghost town of Kayaköy, which was once home to some 6,500 inhabitants but has been abandoned since 1922. There will be a walking tour through he ruins of this town and then by bike, it is off to Fethiye where there will still be time for a walk through town. Worth seeing are the mosque of Eski Cami (situated in the old town with its narrow alleys), as well as the Lykian Tombs high above the city, specifically the gorgeous rock cut temple tomb of Amyntas.

TUESDAY: Fethiye – Saklikent Canyon-Göcek, 25 mi. (40 km)
A short bus transfer (50 minutes) will take you to the start of the bike tour to Xantos and then to the Sakklikent Canyon, to  enjoy a packed lunch at the foot of the river. The gorge is spectacular and can be admired by foot without any problems.  Then, the route leads north to Kemer, where a transfer awaits back to the boat in Fethiye (a 30 minute ride). From here the boat will motor on to Göcek for the overnight.

WEDNESDAY: Göcek – Dalyan, 25 mi. (40 km)
From Göcek  the bike route leads over a 350 m high pass with spectacular views of the whole bay. After biking through the pine forest, you continue along a side-road down to the Dalaman plain, through fertile fields and lush vegetation to Dalyan.  A small boat awaits here to transfer down the Delta river for the overnight in Dalyan, passing the impressive Lykian rock cut tombs of Dalyan.

THURSDAY: Dalyan –Kaunos- Ekincik, 19 mi. (30 km)
In the morning, once again aboard a small boat, there is a transfer to the ancient city of Kaunos which is worth a visit before you cycle along the Koycegiz Lake to the thermal baths. After a 350 m climb to the  little village of Ekincik, the boat and the cook awaits with a large dinner.

FRIDAY: Ekincik – Marmaris, 34 mi. (55 km)
After a two-hour crossing youarrive at the Bozborun Peninsula. The last bike ride tranverses a lonely mountain road to  reach a 300 m high mountain village with its 1500 year old trees. Another 200 meters further and there is a spectacular descent down to Icmeler‘s coastal road. The boat and a delicious evening meal will be awaiting  in Marmaris.

SATURDAY: Departure.
After breakfast, disembarkation.  Group transfer back to the airport.
