Loire Valley III: Angers to Le Croisic

France Bike Tour

The three Loire Valley tours from Orléans to Tours, Tours to Angers and Angers to Le Croisic can be taken individually or one after the other. Starting in Orléans, the routes travel west all the way to Le Croisic on the Atlantic Ocean. The Orléans to Tours route includes the historic town of Orléans, the flowered city of Beaugency, the Château of Chambord (see Château Country tour), the Château of Blois, the Château of Chaumont, and ‘Clos Luce.’ Tours to Angers route includes Villandry with its famous gardens, a Renaissance château in Azay Le Rideau, a 15th château in Langeais, the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ château in Ussé, the abbey of Fontevraud, the vineyards of Anjou, and the château in Angers. Angers to Le Croisic route includes the vineyards at Anjou, the rivers Loire and Layon, Champtoceaux in its magnificent setting, Nantes, and the beaches of St. Brévin and Le Croisic.

Day-To-Day Itinerary

Loire Valley III: Angers to Le Croisic Map
  1. Arrival in Angers.
  2. Angers - Ingrandes sur Loire, 25 mi.
  3. Ingrandes sur Loire - Champtoceaux, 22 mi.
  4. Champtoceaux - Nantes, 19 mi.
  5. Nantes - St. Brévin, 37 mi.
  6. St. Brévin - Le Croisic, 31 mi.
  7. Departure from Le Croisic.

Day 1: Arrival in Angers.

Day 2: Angers – Ingrandes sur Loire, 40 km or 25 mi.
From the heart of the vineyards of Anjou you bike along the slopes of the Loire, Aubance and Layon Rivers. Eventually you come to the banks of the Loire at Chalonnes, the confluence of Loire & Layon rivers.

Day 3: Ingrandes/Loire – Champoceaux, 35 km or 22 mi.
Another pleasantly scenic ride along the banks of the Loire River you bike to Champoceaux. In its magnificent setting this town marks the boundary between Anjou and Brittany.

Day 4: Champtoceaux – Nantes, 30 km or 19 mi.
Today the biking brings you from the countryside and small villages to the big city of Nantes. Discover another point of view of the Loire in the capital of the western region.

Day 5: Nantes – St. Brèvin, 60 km or 38 mi.
Get ready to hit the beach! Along marshlands and countryside you will finish the day at the estuary of the Loire river and enjoy the seaside and beaches.

Day 6: St. Brèvin – Le Croisic, 50 km or 31 mi.
From the estuary of the Loire river you bike to the wild sea coast of Le Croisic. In between, you have an opportunity to discover the famous houses of the medieval town of Guèrande.

Day 7: Departure from Le Croisic.
