Today’s biking brings you past the Mindelsee (Mindel Lake). Via Ludwiigshafen and Sipplingen, you will next reach the old town of Überlingen, which has an interesting old quarter and a pretty promenade along the banks of the Lake. The route leads you past the monastery church of Birnau and the pile-dwellings in Uhldingen before reaching the charming town of Meersburg, where the old alleys and half-timbered houses are surrounded by vineyards. It is worth taking a side-trip from the monastery-church of Birnau into the hinterland to Salem, where probably the most important Cistercian monastery in southern Germany is situated.
