Overview
From Holland's intriguing capital to Belgium's artistic gem, this bike and boat tour follows meandering rivers and canals from Amsterdam to Bruges.
The Golden Age of the 17th Century was a peaceful and prosperous time in Holland when art and architecture flourished. Belgium too became a major European center for industry and art.
The elaborate and beautiful canal system we now enjoy was designed during this time, lined with the homes of wealthy merchants. Today, flower-filled and enchanting, your bike and boat tour unfolds on these very same canals and on the Amstel and Vecht rivers, showcasing the Dutch and Flemish landscape.
*Be sure to set aside some time in Amsterdam to visit the world-renowned museums such as the Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank House, and in Bruges to visit the Groeninge Museum which includes paintings by Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, Rogier van der Weyden, and others.
Highlights
- Amsterdam

After dinner, you can visit the beautiful old city center.
Day 4: Antwerp
If you are doing the 4-day tour, you will check out of your cabin after breakfast. Your luggage can remain on board for the remainder of the day, giving you time to explore Antwerp.

Today you will continue to follow the river Schelde to Ghent where the ship will moor for the night at a lock in a suburb of town. Ghent is a lively university city that boasts a rich history. Since Roman times Ghent’s position at the junction of Leie and Schelde Rivers has ensured that it has been a successful trading port. In total, the city features an Opera House, 18 museums, more than 100 churches, and over 400 historical buildings. Major attractions are St. Bavo Cathedral where a number of masterpieces of medieval art including the world-famous ‘Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’ by Jan van Eyck are kept and the 91-meter-tall belfry of Ghent, one of three medieval towers that overlook the old city center.Day 7: Ghent - Bruges, 13 or 28 mi. (22 or 45 km)
Today you will cycle from Ghent through the beautiful Flemish countryside of western Flanders to Bruges, widely described as the ‘Venice of the North’ and arguably the most beautiful of all the Flemish cities. Bruges attracts more than two million visitors every year who come to see the picturesque medieval town center of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic city and a long list of historic attractions. An outstanding example of a medieval historic settlement, Bruges has managed to maintain its historic fabric as it has evolved over the centuries, with the result that today the city’s original Gothic buildings form an integral part of the town’s identity. While you are here you can visit one of Bruges many museums or simply take in the stunning beauty and culture of this unforgettable city from the comfort of a sidewalk café. Please note that pricing for Zwaan, Sailing Home, and Anna Antal is based on current fuel price. If the fuel price increases more than 5%, our local tour operators have informed us that they will be forced to charge a supplement even for reservations already made.

Extra Info
Skill Level — Easy
This is classified as an easy guided tour. Areas are predominantly flat with some rolling hills possible further south. Average daily distances of about 34 miles over well-maintained asphalt bike paths with little traffic.
Airport Info
Fly into and out of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) or fly to Amsterdam and out of Brussels Zaventem Airport (BRU). You can depart from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport or return to Brussels at the end of the tour.
Local Travel
You will have just a short train ride from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Amsterdam Central train station. From here, many boats are actually moored within walking distance, or just a short taxi ride away. From Bruges, the train to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport takes approx. 3¼ hr and costs approximately ± €48.
Climate
Please check local conditions before travel. There are many good websites to use to research regional weather including average high/low temperatures, average rainfall, and more weather-related facts. The climate in Holland is considered maritime, greatly affected by the sea. Belgium as well is influenced by the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, with cool summers and moderate winters. Please see below for monthly weather averages.
Day of Rest
You can always stay on board ship and sail to the next stop.
Recommended
Even though Wifi may be included on your specific boat, or even if it is available with a surcharge, the strength and speed may not be what you are accustomed to. Due to the steel construction of the ships and barges, signal strength and speed can be affected. If you are dependent on high speed internet while you travel, we suggest that you rent a reliable personal hot spot
Remarks
On all the Magnifiques, Zwaantje, Fleur, and Fluvius, you will be provided with "Ride with GPS" in your final travel documents Ride with GPS (RWGPS) is a special app for your mobile phone, a bike route mapping tool for cyclists. This app provides a way to download tour maps and daily routes to the Ride With GPS app on your smartphone for free. The app provides you with clear GPS tracks with voice navigation, to be used offline. To be able to use the app during your tour, you have to do some homework. Make sure you have downloaded the app on your smart device before you travel and that you have downloaded the maps for offline use as well. Tour leaders only have limited time to help you during the tour, and downloading the app via the ships’ network can take a long time. You can find more information in travel letter or tour offer.
Important to know
Travel Documents
Before you travel, please check the passport and visa requirements of the country/countries you plan to visit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have proper identification. For US citizens, the U.S. Passports & International Travel website is a good source of information. The Country Information tab provides details about passport validity, blank passport pages required, etc. It is important to research before you travel as airlines will not permit boarding if you do not have the required valid documents.
We recommend that you make copies of your important documents and papers (insurance cards, etc.). Leave a copy at home and have a copy with you. In the unfortunate situation that you lose your original documents, having copies facilitates the replacement process.
*Important note: Please check on the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) status as once implemented, this will be required to visit any of the 26 Schengen-member countries for tourism, business, medical, or transit. This is an additional check on security rather than a visa.
