Overview
With such a wealth of historical and cultural attractions to explore in Spain’s splendid capital, your itinerary may feel a little overwhelming. Trust this electric tuk tuk tour to take all the stress out of your sightseeing plan - all you have to do is sit back, relax, and take in the top sights of magical Madrid on an efficient guided tour!
Starting off at Santa Ana Square, one of the liveliest areas in the city, sail past enticing tapas bars, inviting terrace cafes, and romantic Spanish restaurants. You’ll soon be able to spot the incredible spires of Almudena Cathedral piercing the blue sky as you wind your way towards its exquisite exterior. This phenomenal cathedral, begun in the 19th century, was consecrated by Pope John Paul II in 1993 and is the final resting place of many Spanish nobles and royals.
Your tuk tuk will ride on to the resplendent Royal Palace, the largest in Europe. This royal residence beautifully blends Classical and Baroque styles to create an awe-inspiring first impression. Sequestered in these magical grounds are the sublime Sabatini Gardens, which you’ll have the chance to admire.
Your electric tuk tuk tour takes you on to the Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple rebuilt in the center of the Spanish capital having been dismantled as part of the Save the Monuments of Nubia campaign. The temple, over 22,000 years old, is an absolute must-see for history buffs.
Moving on to the Market of San Miguel, discover an ambient covered market first opened circa 1916 and now hosting a rainbow of delicious food stalls as well as local events.
Next on the itinerary is a Neoclassical masterpiece - the Royal Basilica of Saint Francis the Great. Famed for its extraordinary dome and renowned decorative paintings by Zurbarán and Goya, the Basilica is an icon of the city as well as a National Historic-Artistic Monument.
Let your driver lead you onwards to La Latina, a gorgeous labyrinthine district of narrow lanes built on the site of a medieval Islamic fort and now abuzz with cozy tapas bars and cantinas. Just nearby, you’ll encounter Cervantes House, a museum dedicated to a true master of Spanish literature - Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra - who spent his childhood years here. Only a short distance away is the Lope de Vega Museum, bought by the great Spanish writer of the Golden Age of 1610.
Pushing onwards to the impressive Madrid Parliament, also known as the Palacio de las Cortes, admire the Neoclassical facade of this constitutionally significant building. It’s near to the Fountain of Neptune, also built in the Neoclassical style and honoring the Roman water deity.
Your electric tuk tuk tour moves on to the Prado Museum, Spain’s main national art museum. Then, let your guide lead you to Los Jeronimos Church, a phenomenal Roman Catholic church in central Madrid that is bound to take your breath away with its ornate facade and impressive scale.
Ride on to the El Retiro Palace, a remarkable crystal palace currently used for art exhibitions situated in the verdant El Retiro Park. The Palacio de Cristal, built in the shape of a Greek cross, is almost entirely made of glass - a true work of art itself. After admiring its glinting exterior, enjoy a rejuvenating ride through El Retiro Park.
Pushing onwards to the Puerta de Alcala, gaze up in wonder at the gate built as the former Walls of Philip IV in the Plaza de la Independencia, just a few meters away from the entrance to El Retiro Park. From here, you’ll venture onwards to discover the Cibeles Fountain, a large Neoclassical fountain dating back to the 1700s and depicting the goddess Cybele atop a chariot pulled by two lions.
Your terrific tuk tuk tour begins to wind down at the Bank of Spain, Spain’s central bank established in 1782 by Charles III. Listen to your guide’s summary of Spain’s history here and learn of the future this enchanting country is working to make a reality.
