Overview
This great bike tour In Italy, featuring the historic landscapes surrounding Venice, starts in Vicenza and loops through the Veneto region like a pearl necklace.
The area is filled with valleys, lagoons, and rivers, as well as great architecture, including the unique buildings and bridges of Venice. Thousands of spectacular 15th- to 19th-century Palladian villas are scattered over the Venetian plain.
And wine, you ask? Italy is the land of wine, as the Greeks called it. The route will take you through the Prosecco region, a landscape of rolling hills laced with vineyards. The soil, geography, and climate combine to create the magical sparkling Italian wine that we all know and love!
This tour belongs to the European classics, looping between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, and includes all the "musts": art, architecture, history, and cuisine.

Day 1: Vicenza
Individual arrival in Vicenza, known as the "City of Palladio". Andrea Palladio is a famous architect from the 16th century, whose famous works are located in the city, namely the Basilica and the Villa Rotonda. From Vicenza, you can easily reach Venice by train in 50 min. time. The night's accommodations will be in a hotel in the city center close to the train station. You will have a welcome briefing either today or tomorrow before you cycle. This briefing is designed to explain the tour and deliver and fit the rental bikes. The duration of this tour introduction is approximately 30 minutes.Day 2: Vicenza - Bassano del Grappa, 25 mi. (40 km)
Please drop your luggage off at reception by 9 am at the designated area as you will do each cycling day. You will cycle from the valley to the beginning of the Alps until you come to Marostica, a very picturesque town with a nice Castle and the popular Chess Square (a live game with human chess pieces is still played every September on even-numbered years). The Grappa Museum is also certainly worth a visit. Further along the way, you will reach Bassano del Grappa, a charming old town on the Brenta River crossed by a marvelous wooden bridge. Via a trek from Vicenza to the base of the Alps is the town of Bassano del Grappa, known for its spirit. Founded in the Middle Ages, Bassano del Grappa is famous for its covered wooden bridge, the Ponte Vecchio or Ponte degli Alpini, designed by Palladio in 1569. It is tradition, mostly on the weekends, to have an aperitif at the bridge and for the lovers, a bacin d’amor (love kiss). Visit the famous Palladio Villa on your way to Treviso along the Sile River.Elevation gain: 100 m
Day 3: Bassano del Grappa - Treviso, 40 mi. (65 km)
You enter Asolo, which presents us with the only real uphill section of our ride. The downhill run takes you to the land of Prosecco vineyards and on to Maser. It is possible to shorten the stage by 25 km by taking the train from Montebelluna to Treviso, with a change in Castelfranco.Elevation gain: 260/300 m
Day 4: Treviso - Venezia (Mestre), 16/28 mi. (25/45 km)
Leaving Treviso behind, you follow the course of the River Sile up to Casale. At the end of the trip, Venice awaits you for an evening among canals and narrow streets. Accommodation in Mestre; a supplement applies for lodging in Venice. Please take note that it is forbidden to cycle or push your bike by hand in Venice (apart from Piazzale Roma and train station Santa Lucia).Elevation gain: 100 m
Day 5: Mestre/Venice mainland, 40 mi. (65 km)
Leaving Mestre this morning, you head into Venice cycling across the 4 km bridge, “della Libertà”, then to Tronchetto harbor. From here, you take a ferry along the canal Giudecca to Lido. You will be treated to a very exciting day, pedaling on two narrow islands that divide the sea from the lagoon: Malamocco and the island of Pellestrina. If you have time, you can take the motorboat from Pellestrina and visit Chioggia (ticket at own cost).Elevation gain: 0 m
Day 6: Mestre/Venice mainland - Padua thermal district, 34 mi. (55 km)
You will be pedaling along the river that carried trade in and out of Venice in this area centuries ago: the Bacchiglione. You continue to cycle on to the foot of the Euganean Hills where you will have a chance to unwind and relax in a spa resort in the largest European thermal district.Elevation gain: 0 m
Day 7: Padua thermal district - Vicenza, 31 mi. (50 km)
Today, as you cycle along the Battaglia Canal, you will pass through Padova where you will find the great basilica dedicated to St. Anthony, the historic Caffè Pedrocchi, and Prato della Valle. The Bacchiglione River points the way out of the city and you will reach Costozza, a little town at the foot of the Berici hills. The bike path passes in front of Villa Rotonda the most famous of the Palladian villas.Elevation gain: 130 m
