Overview
This bike tour in France features Normandy, a region with great historical significance. A land filled with battle-scars, most notably those from WW II, it is also a beautiful region with magnificent seaside views and rolling inland countryside, dotted with meadows, bluebell woods, and sweet-smelling orchards.
You will have the opportunity to visit the Normandy Beaches, sites of the massive surprise attack by Allied forces that marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War. There are many memorials and museums that commemorate those who fought and those who died during this momentous period in history.
The tour is offered with options for different lengths and different levels of accommodations. You will start either in the old Roman town of Bayeux, the first French town liberated by the Allies on June 8, 1944, or Carentan, situated between Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, and the scene of the Battle of Carentan between the airborne forces of the US and the German Wehrmacht.
Today, Bayeux is a flourishing farm center known for its majestic 13th-century Gothic cathedral, as well as the famous Bayeux tapestry (11th century). Carentan is a quaint and striking town nestled among the wetlands and wild marshes.
Highlights will vary depending on which version of the itinerary you choose.
