North Patagonia & Andean Lakes
Argentina, Chile Bike Tours
A guided e-bike tour of Lakes, Volcanoes, and Scenic Gravel Roads from Argentina to Chile
-
Overview
Patagonia is the wild edge of South America, where jagged peaks and massive glaciers dominate the landscape. Known for outdoor adventure and iconic national parks, Patagonia serves as the gateway to this guided cross-border cycling journey through the Argentine–Chilean Lakes Region.
Following a natural corridor, the route passes through an active volcanic area between Argentina and Chile where the Andes are still alive, marked by lava fields and steaming craters. It links gravel roads, mountain passes, lake crossings, and small towns.
Off the bike, there’s time to soak in hot springs, experience local Mapuche culture, and enjoy traditional meals of grilled meat and local Malbec. Days end at carefully selected mountain lodges and boutique hotels that offer comfort, character, and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

Extra Info
Skill Level — Moderate
This tour is suited to riders with some previous cycling experience who are comfortable spending longer days on the bike. Most days cover 25 to 50 miles, with elevation gains of roughly 1,300 to 3,300 feet, and riding time typically falls between 4 and 7 hours, depending on conditions and pace.
The route includes a mix of paved roads and gravel. Gravel sections vary in quality, from smooth and well-maintained to rougher stretches typical of remote parts of Patagonia, though there is usually a good line to ride. The terrain ranges from flat valleys to rolling hills, with a few steeper climbs along the way. Near larger towns, riders may occasionally encounter more traffic.
A support vehicle carries all luggage and is available throughout the day to offer assistance or a break when needed, with space for a limited number of bikes and riders.

Departure: A transfer will be arranged from the final hotel in San Martín de los Andes to Chapelco Airport (CPC), timed to match your flight schedule.
Climate
In November and December, Northern Patagonia experiences late spring and early summer conditions with mild to warm daytime temperatures, long daylight hours, and generally stable weather, though cool mornings and occasional rain showers are possible. March and April bring early to mid-autumn, with slightly cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and crisp riding conditions, along with increased fall color in the forests. Across all months, the Andean Lake District is known for variable mountain weather, so riders should expect changing conditions and be prepared with layers and light rain protection.
Remarks
Travel in this region means embracing the landscape as it is. In Patagonia, many of the most rewarding routes, linking lakes, mountain passes, and remote villages, exist only on gravel roads. These surfaces provide access to places that are otherwise unreachable, and for most riders, they become a highlight rather than a challenge. With e-bikes, experienced guides, and full vehicle support, the riding remains comfortable, manageable, and deeply rewarding.
