Extra Info
Skill Level — Moderate
Expect to hike 4-5 hours daily, covering 5-8 miles (8-12 km) with an elevation gain of about 1300 feet (400 meters). This tour is challenging and requires a reasonable level of fitness for full enjoyment. The trails are rugged and varied, featuring uneven, rocky, and narrow paths with surfaces of gravel, grass, and forest soil. While some trails are shaded by forests, others offer minimal shade, so be prepared for sun exposure. The terrain is primarily rocky limestone with sharp stones, so sturdy hiking shoes with good grip and hiking poles (if you use them) are recommended.
Airport Info
International arrivals and departures are most convenient via Zagreb International Airport (ZAG), Croatia’s main international gateway.
Local Travel
Upon arrival at Zagreb International Airport, independent transfers (taxi or rideshare) are available to your centrally located hotel in Zagreb (approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic).
At the conclusion of the tour, independent transfers are arranged back to Zagreb International Airport for onward travel.
Climate
During summer (late June to early September), temperatures typically hover around 86°F (30°C). In peak season, especially in August, heatwaves can push temperatures above 95°F (35°C). While strong winds are possible, the region generally enjoys favorable weather conditions during the summer months.
Remarks
This tour is perfect for avid hikers who also enjoy the sea. Expect a mix of challenging hikes, easier walks, and plenty of time exploring hidden beaches, swimming, and soaking up the Croatian coast.
The summer heat can be intense, so consider traveling in April, May, September, or October if you prefer milder temperatures. While Croatia is busiest in July and August, this itinerary is designed to minimize crowd encounters, ensuring that you’ll still find some beaches and trails all to yourself.
The tour will be adjusted to the heat by starting hikes early in the day, taking breaks during the hottest hours, and resuming activities in the late afternoon.
