Day 1: Petchaburi - Hua Hin, 42 mi. (68 km)
After meeting at a Bangkok hotel, there will be a 2-hour transfer to Petchaburi for the start of the cycling. This ride is a gentle start, heading out of Petchaburi and into rural Thailand, along roads flanked by paddy fields and palm trees. The cycling continues along the beach into Cha-am and to the beach resort town of Hua Hin, closely tied to Thai royalty. The king currently resides at the summer palace located just outside town. The last 20 km is on a main road but there is a wide shoulder to ride on and if the traffic proves to be too heavy this section can be transferred. You will top off the day with a seafood dinner on a pier in the center of town. (L, D)Accommodation: Putahracsa
Elevation gain/loss: +194 m/-194 mDay 2: Hua Hin - Prachuap Khiri Khan, 71 mi. (113 km)
Pedaling out of Hua Hin, on quiet country roads along the beaches, the first destination is Sam Roi Yot (300 hundred peaks) National Park. The peaks of the spectacular limestone formations will be your backdrop. As the riding continues back toward the coast, you will pass through many small villages. The final section is along the beach to Prachuap Khiri Khan. The selected hotel has some great views and as the town is well known for having some of the finest seafood in Thailand, you will feast on the local specialties at dinner. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Hadthong Hotel
Elevation gain/loss: +584 m/-579 mDay 3: Prachuap Khiri Khan - Ban Krut, 44 mi. (71 km),
The morning will find you cycling along the beaches once again for approximately 12 km before hitting the main road. This section is 9 km. You are now well away from the main tourist areas and the roads are quiet and in good condition. The route leads toward a serene beach and the nature-friendly boutique resort, Baan Grood Arcadia, for a refreshing overnight. Take time to relax in a hammock and listen to the surf. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Baan Grood Arcadia
Elevation gain/loss: +344 m/-344 mDay 4: Ban Krut - rest day
Today, rest is on the schedule! You have earned it! Spend it relaxing at the beach, wandering around the fishing village of Ban Krut, or take a dip in one of the two saltwater pools at the resort. (B)Accommodation: Baan Grood Arcadia
Day 5: Ban Krut - Chumpon, 70 mi. (112 km),
Now that you are well-rested, it’s time to do some serious riding! 112 km is on the schedule on quiet side roads with very little traffic. The route stays along the coast today providing views of the sea to the left and rugged mountains on the right. You pass through Thailand’s narrowest part, and the border with Burma is less than 20 km away at some points. The day ends just north of Chumpon, at another secluded and quiet beach. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Nana Beach Resort
Elevation gain/loss: +693 m/-693 mDay 6: Chumpon - Ranong, 87 mi. (140 km)
Today, you will cross the Isthmus of Kra, which separates the Gulf of Thailand from the Andaman Sea and is just 44 km wide at its narrowest point. The route leads west for about 60 km on an undulating road that cuts through the lush jungle-covered mountains that surround this area. The hills and the twists and turns in the road make for some varied riding. There is a climb of about 3 km starting at the Pun Ya Ban Waterfall and then it is downhill and flat all the way to Ranong. This is a spa town and the hotel has a hot mineral spring pool to soothe those aching muscles. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Tinidee Hotel
Elevation gain/loss: +1142 m/-1134 mDay 7: Ranong - Khuraburi, 80 mi. (128 km)
Rolling hills, but no extreme climbs, is the route today as you ride through valleys. We ride through valleys with just enough ascents and descents to make the ride interesting. You will pass many villages and the local children will surely wave and shout out Farang, Farang! (Foreigner). After some great views, the ride ends in a lovely little resort nestled in a valley and surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Kuraburi Greenview Resort
Elevation gain/loss: +1052 m/-981 mDay 8: Khuraburi - Khao Lak, 45 mi. (72 km)
The journey continues south, riding from valley to valley towards picturesque Khao Lak. The road flattens out a bit closer to Takua Pa, a former Portuguese settlement. The region was an important tin-dredging center in the first half of the 20th-century, but there remains little evidence of the mining as now rubber plantations have covered the dredged land. There is a small climb to the hotel which is right on the beach and set next to a small national park. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Apsara Beachfront Resort & Villa
Elevation gain/loss: +518 m/-587 mDay 9: Khao Lak - Phuket, 88 mi. (106km)
The last leg of the tour leads to the tropical paradise of Phuket, the largest island and also a province of Thailand. There are a couple of small hills to conquer before leaving Khao Lak, but then it’s flat all the way down to Phang Nga and Phuket. This road is in excellent condition and you’ll make a good time towards the resort on Surin Beach. Phuket is connected by a bridge to the main land and you will stop for a celebratory picture before riding on to our hotel. If you are feeling energetic, you can take a very scenic coastal road where there are a few small but steep hills on the way. The views are well worth the extra effort though. (B,L,D)Accommodation: Nai Yang Beach Resort
Elevation gain +741 m/-743 mDay 10: Departure

Skill Level — Difficult
This guided and fully supported road bike tour is best suited for cyclists able to handle daily riding distances over 120 kilometers on tarmac roads with average daily climbing of 635 meters. Though some of the distances are quite long, the roads are smooth, making it an achievable distance on a road bike. The trip is fully supported, and your guide’s expert knowledge of the area and terrain means that you always know what is coming up in terms of distance and difficulty. There is a support vehicle at all times.
Airport Info
Fly into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Bangkok’s main international airport, located 30 km (19 mi) to the east of Bangkok. There is only one large terminal building, which covers both domestic and international flights.
At the end of the tour fly out of Phuket International Airport (HKT).
Local Travel
We recommend getting a taxi to your first hotel. Ordinary metered taxis are available on the first floor (one floor below arrivals). Follow the “public taxi” signs that lead to the outside of the airport premises, queue up, and state your destination at the desk (English is understood). Please ask us for more detailed information.
Climate
Southern Thailand has a tropical climate with fairly high humidity. There are three seasons: from March to June it is hot and dry, with temperatures between 27 C (80 F) and 35 C (95 F), with night temperatures in the 20s (68 F). The rainy season is from July to October, but temperatures are slightly lower, because of the effect of the rain. During this time it will not rain continuously, but in sharp bursts, and the sun can come out quickly. The cooler season is from October to February, with average temperatures between 20 C (68 F) and 30 C (86 F).
Recommended
Wearing a helmet is required on this biking adventure and is non-negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour leader is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree, you must be responsible for your own safety while riding. Travel insurance is mandatory.
Remarks
If you opt for an electric bike you will be riding the Giant Explore E+ 3 2019 e-bike or similar. These e-bikes combine the durability and comfort of a Giant hybrid bike, with the latest technology in electric, “pedal-assisted” cycling. With 5 modes, you can go from minimal assistance to full speed, though a comfortable pace is easily achieved with moderate pedaling.
Important to know
Travel documents
All nationalities require a passport for entry into Thailand. Please ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. If staying less than 30 days, then a visa in advance is not required for European, North American, Australian, and many other nationalities. You will need proof of an onward flight out of Thailand to be eligible for the visa on arrival. This is strictly enforced. Please check with your local embassy regarding entry requirements, as this information may change.
More information on arrival travel
We recommend getting a taxi to your first hotel. Ordinary metered taxis are available on the first floor (one floor below arrivals). Follow the 'public taxi' signs that lead to the outside of the airport premises, queue up, and state your destination at the desk. A machine dispenses queue tickets. There is a 50 baht total surcharge on top of the meter rate. The fare to the city will cost 250-400 baht plus possible expressway tolls of 50 and 25 baht, depending on time. Make sure you have change ready to pass to the toll operators to avoid being overcharged for the tolls. Travel time is approx. 45-60 minutes, depending on the time. During rush hour it can take much longer. No other surcharges apply. If there is a long taxi line, consider taking a limousine taxi, or take the free shuttle bus to the Public Transport Center (where you will find more taxis). You can wait at the "official public taxi stand". It is rare, but there have been reports of rigged meters that make the ride cost more than 400 baht. These taxis usually appear highly modified and it is a good idea to avoid them or record the license plate number of the taxi.
