Extra Info
Skill Level — Moderate
This is a moderate self-guided tour with van support or a fully guided tour with support. Daily biking routes are mainly on low-traffic roads and cycle paths ranging from 25 to 57 km (16 to 36 miles) each day, with the possibility to cycle more kilometers on a few days (on the self-guided tour). The terrain is varied and rolling with some gradual hills on some riding days (some steep ups and downs in the Gauja River valley & Otepää region), but flat most of the tour. Walking in the capital towns is along cobbled streets. The tour covers all three Baltic States, and therefore it includes a few long bus transfers between the most interesting cycling destinations and the capital cities.
Airport Info
Fly to Vilnius Airport (VNO) or Kaunas Airport (100 km from Vilnius), Lithuania and depart from Tallinn International Airport (TLL), Estonia.
Local Travel
Train:
There is a special train “Vilnius-Airport” running regularly to/from Vilnius railway station. The train shuttles 16 times a day and takes approximately 7 minutes. The fee is approximately €1 which can be purchased on the train. You will find the railway stop next to the airport passenger terminal. There is a footway leading from the railway stop to the airport terminal.
Taxi:
Vilnius Airport-approved taxi cabs are cheap, quality, and comfortable. An approved taxi rank can be found just in front of the arrivals terminal. All taxi cabs accept cash and credit cards. Always ask for a printed receipt at the end of the trip! From the airport to the old town, the fare is approximately €10.Climate
Your tour mainly follows the Baltic Sea coast from south to north. Typically, the climate along the Baltic Sea is characterized by marked seasonality and variability. Mild maritime weather from the North Atlantic can be a factor, but other times, continental influences are predominant. As this tour covers a large distance by bike and transfers, it is important to research local weather conditions before your arrival and include several destinations in your overall regional weather search. Don’t forget your raingear!
Remarks
If you choose the self-guided with support, throughout the entire tour, except Jurmala and the Curonian Spit, there will be a driver with a minibus and bike trailer for support and to transfer your luggage every day to the next hotel. If you need assistance, the driver will be available. If you have any problems, you can contact the driver or the office. You will also take part in city tours (Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius) lead by professional guides. Guided includes a cycling guide who rides with the group.
Important to know
Travel Documents
It is each traveler's responsibility to ensure that you are in compliance with the country or countries you plan to visit. This includes and is not limited to passport validity, visa requirements and acquisition, blank passport pages required for your destination (s), etc.
US citizens: A good website to research the requirements of the Schengen Agreement and entry into other countries is travel.state.gov.
Non-EU and EU residents: Please research the requirements of your country of residence for international travel and your destination country or countries.
*Important note: Please check on the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) status as once implemented, this will be required to visit any of the 26 Schengen-member countries for tourism, business, medical, or transit. This is an additional check on security rather than a visa.Tour Operator
