The Anaga Mountains, formed by a volcanic eruption around 7 million years ago, constitute the oldest part of Tenerife. This region boasts rare plants, and includes a humid laurel forest with ferns and moss-covered twisted trees, making it a haven of ancient vegetation. Contrasting with the bustling, sun-soaked southern part of the island, the Anaga Rural Park in northern Tenerife offers tranquility, fewer tourists, and lush greenery resembling an enchanted forest.Following the day's hike, consider stopping at Mama Delgado's to sample delicious Canarian cuisine. Nestled in the picturesque hills high above La Orotava is a traditional Canarian home. The house offers splendid views across the hills and extends down to the vast ocean below. It is enveloped by a serene garden, meticulously cared for over the years, featuring an array of fruit trees. Today, these pools offer a refreshing escape, blending seamlessly with the rocky coastal landscape. Over ten days, lava flowed from Chinyero, reaching Santiago del Teide and even casting ash over the northern cities and the Anaga mountains. Since this eruption, Tenerife has enjoyed a period of volcanic tranquility. The remnants of the 1909 lava flow are visible on all Chinyero paths, offering a powerful testament to the force of the eruption. This evening, you’ll stay at the Parador Hotel located just outside of the National Park. Perched at an altitude exceeding 2,000 meters, it stands as a mountain mansion boasting unparalleled views of the Teide peak.
