Overview
An exquisite wine lover’s experience awaits you on this indulgent day in the idyllic countryside of Champagne, touring historical villages, UNESCO vineyards, atmospheric wine cellars, and awe-inspiring avenues, perfectly complemented by traditional French food and fine wine tastings.
Beginning in the center of romantic Reims, your sophisticated adventure starts with an exploration of this historical city, the chosen coronation city for the kings of France. Gaze in wonder at the ‘Grandes Maisons de Champagne’ like Taittinger and Pommery before boarding your comfortable minivan and gliding by the impressive ‘Notre Dame de Reims’.
You’ll make your first stop at the magnificent Maison de Champagne Veuve Clicquot for an insightful introduction to the Champagne-making process (if not available, another Champagne house will be visited). Enjoy a guided tour through the incredible 2000-year old cellars that lie 25 meters underground! Round off the tour with a sumptuous tasting of the maison’s four emblematic cuvees.
As you venture into the resplendent heart of the Champagne region, your guide will illuminate your understanding of the region’s terroir whilst you gaze out over UNESCO World Heritage Site vineyards. Quite a view!
Heading on to the historic village of Hautvillers, enjoy a fabulous guided tour around the birthplace of Champagne, including a visit to the famous Dom Perignon church.
Make sure to watch out the window as you’re driven down the awe-inspiring ‘Avenue de Champagne’, the prestigious road in Epernay referred to as the ‘Capital of Champagne’ owing to the celebrated Champagne houses that line its sides, including Pol Roger, Perrier Jouet, Moet & Chandon, and Boizel.
Your second Champagne house visit of the tour takes place in Mareuil-sur-Ay at Le Clos Corbier. Following an entertaining Champagne quiz, an immersive workshop will teach you to expertly identify the aromas and flavors of Champagne wines. A sumptuous wine tasting of three delightful Champagnes from local wineries follows, accompanied by traditional snacks.
Take a break with a luscious French lunch laid on to introduce you to the region’s superb specialities, paired with local Champagnes, to give you a full flavor of the fabulous French lifestyle.
Following lunch, you’ll meet a Champagne producer who’ll take you behind the scenes for a close look at a press, tank room, and Champagne cellars to understand the daily life of a small Champagne maker. You’ll be treated to tastings of several of their rare products, topping off an exquisite tour before your transfer brings you safely back to Reims.
