C.S. Lewis, famously the author of The Chronicles of Narnia, Mere Christianity, and The Problem of Pain, was a dear friend of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Both men had incredibly close ties to Oxford - Lewis taught English Literature at Magdalen College, and Tolkien taught it at Merton College. Together, they formed part of The Inklings literary society.
