Day 1: Arrival in Bolzano
This bike tour in Italy starts with individual arrival in Bolzano. Here, the lifestyles of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean combine to create a unique atmosphere.Day 2: Bolzano, transfer to Brunico. Brunico - Dobbiaco/San Candido, 19 mi. (30 km)
The day begins with a private transfer by car to Brunico (approx. 44 miles) to start your bike tour. Also known as the 'Pearl of Pusteria Valley,' Brunico is a lively town with a historical center and rural surroundings. Today's cycling route runs slightly uphill along the Rienz River, which leads to Dobbiaco/San Candido, close to the Austrian border.Day 3: Dobbiaco/San Candido - Cadore valley, 28/41 mi. (45/65 km)
You’ll leave Dobbiaco (Toblach in German) and enter the Landro Valley with the famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo, cycling slightly uphill till the Cimabanche pass, along the bike path of the Long Way of the Dolomites. A panoramic descent will bring you to Cortina d'Ampezzo and finally to the Cadore valley.Day 4: Cadore valley - Belluno, 41/28 mi. (65/45 km)
Today you’ll follow the river Piave, the Italian “sacred river”, due to the battles fought in this area during the first world war. In the last part of the Long Way of the Dolomites, you’ll cycle on secondary roads with some up and downhill and you’ll get to Longarone, sadly known for the Vajont disaster. Extra Info
Skill Level — Easy–Moderate
This bike tour in Italy is considered easy to moderate. You ride anywhere from approximately 19 to 41 miles a day in 6 days of cycling. All riding takes place on asphalted back-roads or bike paths, or for short stretches, on an unpaved path in good condition. 82% of roads are tarmac and 18% are unpaved. Occasionally you will have to bike for a short time in heavier traffic when entering bigger towns, or to bridge two roads. The route is mostly on lowlands but you will encounter some hilly sections. The total vertical distance is 2,300 m.
Airport Info
Fly to Verona (VRN) or Innsbruck (INN) Airport.
Local Travel
Take a short bus ride to the main train station, and then by train to Bolzano.
Climate
The Veneto region in Italy enjoys a sub-continental climate, though the presence of the sea and the Alps protect it from north winds making it completely temperate. Rainfall takes place throughout the year, with the hottest months being August and September. Below you will find the average monthly temperature and rainfall for Treviso.
