Overview
With the snowy peaks of the Hohe Tauern Mountains serving as a constant panorama, this bicycle tour in Austria begins in Krimml, where the famous Krimml Waterfalls cascade over 1200 ft. in three stages to the valley below.
The "Tauernradweg", or Tauern Bike Path, stretches over 300 kilometers along the largest rivers in the country, to Salzburg, and further on to Passau.
This is one of Austria's most beautiful regions. Soaring panoramas enthrall! Come and cycle the paths that meander the Salzach and Saalach Rivers at the foothills of the Austrian Alps.

Day 1: Arrival in Krimml/Wald
Arrival into one of these villages, Krimml/Wald. Recommended is a visit to the Krimmler waterfalls which is included in the tour price. If you want to explore the waterfalls closer, it is advised to spend an extra night.Standard accommodation: Panoramahotel Burgeck

Today’s tour will cycle through the Rosental to Neukirchen, where you can visit a little museum named the ‘Kammerlanderstall’. Following on in the direction of the Habachtal (famous for its emerald mines), you’ll reach the quaint villages of Bramberg and Mittersill, also well-known for their country-style museums. During the afternoon, you’ll come by the Europe-Sport-Region Kaprun/Zell am See with the famous power plants lying in the Kaprun valley.Standard accommodation: Hotel Der Schütthof

Leaving the upper Salzachtal Valley you follow the very natural river course of the Saalach. The cycle path leads you through the broad valley basin of Saalfelden and the famous place of pilgrimage, Maria Alm. Along the way you will pass two natural monuments worth visiting, the Seisenbergklamm Gorge and the Lamprechtshohle Cave, before reaching your destination at Lofer.Standard accommodation: Hotel Hochmoos

Take in the wonderous view as the river Saalach glides through the Steinernes Meer mountains at Unken. Continue to follow the shore until you reach the spa town, Bad Reichenhall, and the broad lowland of the Salzburg basin. Following the course of the Salzach River, crossing fields and meadows along the way, you will soon find yourself in Oberndorf. It was here that in 1818 the famous Christmas carol, “Silent Night, Holy Night”, was performed for the first time. The little “Holy Night Chapel” still gives evidence of this memorial event. Continuing on, you’ll come to Burghausen, where you can marvel at its imposing castle and also lay eyes on Europe’s longest fortress.Standard accommodation: Hotel Dormero

From Burghausen, you reach the unique landscape at the mouth of the Inn and Salzach rivers. From here, continue to Braunau, a wonderful old border town where you may decide to linger. Don't stay too long as directly after Braunau, you will encounter 'Unterer Inn', a protected bird and nature reserve set in rich wetlands along the river. Not far form Bad Füssing, you will pass the Reichersberg Abbey, an 11th-century monastery. The journey continues from here along the Inn to the beautiful baroque town of Schärding. You have the choice: either you spend your last night in Schärding or you cycle further to the 3-river-town Passau. Please indicate your overnight wish at your booking! Skill Level — Moderate
This is a moderate self-guided hotel tour with average daily distances of about 35 miles over bike paths, country lanes, and quiet side roads. The landscape is mainly flat since the Tauern bike path follows the course of the Salzach River, however you will encounter slightly hilly terrain with an incline of approx. 750 m from Krimml to Passau. Some long gradients are unavoidable.

Train transfer to Krimml from Salzburg. Travel time is approximately 3 hrs and 20 min.
