Skill Level

This is an easy, self guided bike and boat tour. Tour leaders are available on board in case of questions or problems. You’ll be following the mostly flat Danube Cycle path with average daily distances between 21 and 37 miles (34 and 59 km). Any day can be used as a day of rest.

Day 1: Arrival in Passau
Day 2: Wesenufer - Schlögen Bend - Linz, 37 mi. (59 km)
Day 3: Linz - Grein, 36 mi. (58 km)
Day 4: Grein - Spitz/Wachau, 34 mi. (55 km)
Day 5: Spitz/Wachau - Dürnstein - Krems - Tulln, 32 mi. (52 km)
Day 6: Vienna, 21 mi. (34 km)
Day 7: Rest day on board
Day 8: Departure from Passau

Day 1: Arrival in Passau
Welcome refreshments are offered on board beginning at 4 p.m. At 8 p.m, the captain’s welcome dinner, with a 4-course a la carte menu begins and the boat departs to Wesenufer, the historical fishing village.
MS Primadonna: departure Passau 8:00 p.m / arrival Wesenufer 9:30 p.m.

Day 2: Wesenufer - Schlögen Bend - Linz, 37 mi. (59 km)
Cycle past Schlögen Bend to Aschach and then to Linz (European Capital of Culture 2009) via the uninhabited Engtal bei Kaiserau.
MS Primadonna: departure Wesenufer 1:00 p.m. / arrival Linz 5:15 p.m.​

Day 3: Linz - Grein, 36 mi. (58 km)
Today's route takes you past the Pragstein castles (gothic/museum), Wallsee (Habsburg), and Greinburg (Saxe-Coburg). The day ends in Grein, a Baroque city with a beautiful old town.
MS Primadonna: departure Linz 1:00 p.m. / arrival Grein 5:00 p.m.

Day 4: Grein - Spitz/Wachau, 34 mi. (55 km)
Cycle past the black wall and the Nibelung city Ybbs to Melk. Dependent upon your level of fitness, you can choose to bike to Spitz (approximately 17 km) or by local cruise liner (€ 7.50/paid on-site). Spitz is one of the most famous Austrian wine growing areas in the Wachau Valley. This village is famous for its 3 castles, monasteries and the well known, Burg Mountain (also called the 1000-Eimer-Berg). Some of the best Austrian white wines are made here. Recommended is a visit to a wine tavern (not included in the tour price).

Day 5: Spitz/Wachau - Dürnstein - Krems - Tulln, 32 mi. (52 km)
Continue on through the Wachau Valley, the most well-known section of the Danube. You'll cycle to Dürnstein, its famous castle, a UNESCO world heritage site, towers above the town. Pass through Krems, formerly the richest city in Austria. The route continues to the floral town of Tulln famous for its beautiful gardens, magnificent grounds, charnel house, and baroque city center.
MS Primadonna: departure Spitz 1:00 p.m. / arrival Tulln 5:00 p.m.

Day 6: Vienna, 21 mi. (34 km)
In the morning you reach your final leg of the journey, passing the Austrian Escorial, Klosterneuburg Monastery, and lastly on to Vienna. The rental bikes can be returned directly on the cycling path and private bikes can be loaded on the ship. If you'd like, you can join the group for a city tour of Vienna that begins at the landing stage at approximately 1 p.m. This can be booked and paid for directly on board (€10).

You can also opt to do a city tour by bike (free of charge, information provided) There is a beautiful bike path that leads to Ringstraße, the city center. By following the route, you can sightsee Vienna by bike. “Cast off” at midnight to the return to Passau.
MS Primadonna: departure Tulln 9:30 a.m. / arrival Vienna 11:45 a.m. / departure Vienna 12:30 a.m.

Day 7: Rest day on board
Today can be spent on board enjoying the ammenities that the boat has to offer. Relax in the outdoor jacuzzi as you enjoy the passing scenery or visit the on board spa with its large jacuzzi, Kneip pool, and sauna. It is also possible to book a massage. The barge will set sail and arrive in Linz in the afternoon. Tickets to the Bruckner organ concert in Linz’s city church are included in the tour price. You will also have plenty of time to explore Linz. After midnight, the boat leaves Linz and cruises to Passau.
MS Primadonna: arrival Linz 4:30 p.m. / departure Linz 12:30 a.m.

Day 8: Departure from Passau
Arrival in Passau at approximately 7 a.m. If you've booked a transfer to the train station or car park, it will leave after breakfast at approximately 9 a.m.
