Dalmatian Coast from Split to Dubrovnik
Croatia
Well, my first experience was in 2016, in Ireland, when I cycled alone in the Clare & The Burren region. It was great... Then in 2017 I cycled in Norway, Drammen, Horten, Sandefjord, Fredrikstad, Son and Oslo, and in December 2017 I cycled over Christmas and New Year in Vietnam and Cambodia. Last year I cycled around Lake Constance, which I LOVED! This year I went walking in CROATIA, in the Dalmatian region, and I LOVED it. I guess I'm a bit biased to say anything.

Dalmatian Coast from Split to Dubrovnik
Croatia
Split, the hikes on Island Brad and Hvar Island were the most memorable. Our briefing in Split was comprehensive with well organized materials. Villa Toni was wonderful and our host was exceptional in customer service. Villa Nora was nicely located and the hosts were welcoming. Did not enjoy the entire Korcula experience - parts of the hike were okay but some along a major road were not. Nothing to see or do in Korcula. Hotel Liburna was okay - best part was the breakfast. We skipped Day 6 of our itinerary because the travel and hiking seemed uninteresting. Hotel Lapad in Dubrovnik was amazing and wonderfully located away from the touristed areas. Dubrovnik was very expensive and Old Town was jammed with cruise tourists. There were several stop gaps and wait times on this itinerary which were frustrating to us.

Seeing the village of Mosteiros was memorable. The hot springs were fun. The hikes were challenging and beautiful. Be sure to visit the Terra Nostra gardens in Furnace. It is not on the itinerary but unbelievably beautiful. Be prepared to have other options if things to do if it rains. The tea plantation hike was also good.

Best event was the Wine Pairing meal at ENOTECA PROPERZIO, food was the best and wines were so tasty!
Other wine tastings also good and loved the cooking lesson with the Pasta making!
Hikes were much more difficult than posted, hardly suitable for families, trail on last day from Spoleto was not well signed but we found it! The trail near the farm with the dogs was poorly marked and much of the trail has been affected by erosion. Great value for money on this trip, all hotels were excellent!

Hike the Heel of Italy Food & Wine Tour
Italy
The trip was well organized. I met with the tour staff in Italy before I started as well as at the end of the tour. I appreciated the GPX tracks which made navigation easier. The materials were well organized, train tickets included with schedules, and I enjoyed the hotels where I stayed. The luggage transfer was efficient and my suitcase was always waiting for me when I arrived at the hotel. I enjoyed visiting the major cities on the tour: Lecce, Otranto and Gallipoli.
As I mentioned to the staff, the final day of walking in the nature park needs a major improvement. I got very lost in the woods and the GPX tracks failed to give helpful directions. It was stressful as I was traveling alone. I also suggested that the food and wine portion of the trip be improved or just dropped from the tour. I never located the wine tasting shop (nor could the local folks that I asked for assistance) and the sampling of local products at a bakery was a slice of pizza. 4 dinners were included but it was unclear what was included in the dinner which was confusing.
I was happy to visit southern Italy and see so many historic locations

The views were spectacular! The people of Croatia were friendly, welcoming and accommodating. It was a most enjoyable trip.
Tips: pack water shoes and a light weight towel in your back pack while hiking to enjoy the many beaches!

We loved the culinary experiences..all were unique and different..the hotels were lovely and people were very helpful... we loved all 3 towns on the tour...the hiking and we did every inch of every trail was challenging and a large part of every hike was all up mountains which was a bit different from meandering the country side and doing rolling hills ...we found that some of the trails were washed out and footing was difficult ..suggesting they should be checked!

The Green Island of the Azores Archipelago
Portugal
We signed up for the self-guided 8-day hiking tour on Sao Miguel Island, Portugal. The itinerary was well planned with accommodations in two different hotels, the Octant Hotels in Furnas and another hotel in Ponta Delgada. The Octant Hotel had great breakfast buffets to start the day and thermal pools at the end of our hiking days. Each of the 5 hikes were different and provided a challenge with their ascents and descents as well as opportunity to marvel at the landscapes. It was well planned to have a whale/dolphin watching excursion mid-week to give the body a break in hiking days. We appreciated the Ride with GPS app that was pre-populated with the hiking routes along with extra information about what to expect and see along the route. The Trip Plan app also provided good information, which we used throughout the trip. Tripsite representatives were quick to respond to our questions. It was a fabulous hiking adventure and would definitely recommend it.

Making pasta was a fun event.
One gourmet dinner looked fantastic BUT did not taste great.
The hikes WERE DEFINITELY not as advertised!! Dangerous and unsafe in some areas. Walking through the olive groves was lovely. We are all experienced hikers and walkers but some parts too hard.
The architecture was delightful every where. Hotel in Fontebella was lovely. In ASSISI while walking became upon a visual a d musical journey of St. Francis that was unbelievably fantastic!!!
Our wine tasting at Saio was great.
Hotel in Spello was the best but we could only stay one night-disapointing!!
Best meal was Enotata Properzo.

Classic Banff Hiking Tour
Canada
The scenery was amazing. The hiking was challenging. The guide was passionate. She could have done a better job of briefing the group about each hike so we could better prepare ourselves. Since there was only one guide, if we thought the planned hike might be too difficult, the only choice was to go or not go on the hike that day. The lunches need to be more varied. Everyday we prepared our own lunch from food bought by the guide. We ate processed deli meat, cheese, wraps, and snacks from COSTCO and potato chips everyday. This became unappealing after several days. Extra water was provided in single use plastic bottles. This is not environmentally friendly. I would have preferred being given a large reusable water bottle with the company logo that could be refilled with water from a large container carried in the van. At the end of the trip the guide sent each couple an email requesting a tip equal to 20% the total cost of the trip. We were all surprised at the amount. If this was the expected amount this should have been shared prior to the trip in a FAQ. Many of us did not have that amount of cash on hand.

Umbria - Culinary Walking Tour
Italy
We stayed in Assisi and Spello and both were amazing, but we really loved Spello - less people. A local person there said that Europeans come to Spello, Americans go to Assisi. But it was great to have both experiences. Petra met us at our hotel and outlined everything and helped with maps on our phone. There were times that we thought we were following the written instructions, only to look at the map and see that we had strayed from the route. Although, it would be difficult to get lost. The hotels were perfect and the dinners and wine tasting at Sporletti when we walked from Assisi to Spello was such a bonus. Matteo, whose family owns the winery, was so good and we learned a lot about wine and the region. We stayed an extra day and had a great bike ride from Spello on the Appennino Bike Tour route. Petra was going to deliver bikes to our hotel, but at the last minute, the weather seemed questionable, so we cancelled, but then the sun came out. It was easy to get bikes in Spello. Everything was seamless. This is our second self-guided walking tour with Tripsite - and they have both been amazing. The Umbrian countryside is spectacular.

Coastal Route Camino de Santiago
Portugal, Spain
Our Coastal Camino experience (self-guided) was truly amazing! The incredible scenery, the amazing hotels, and the connections we made wth fellow pilgrims from around the world. The tour company in Portugal was very responsive and went out of their way to ensure our experience was special. We stayed in the most incredible locations, including a fortress, a castle and an incredible old textile mill that has been converted into a literal ‘Garden of Eden’ with its own waterfall. We loved walking 5-6 hours per day (very achievable) and the routes were so beautiful (they took our breath away). Arriving at the Santiago de Compostela was an emotional and joyous experience. This trip exceeded our expectations and we are already planning our next Camino adventure!

Tripsite chose comfortable properties with fantastic food for our 7- day Spanish Way Camino hike. We appreciated their attention to detail which helped make our trek go as smoothly as possible.
We had need to contact their office during our trip. They responded quickly and the issue was resolved with ease.
We are already thinking about our next big adventure and look forward to using Tripsite again.

Madeiral was stunning! The Tripsite staff and the drivers they hire were so helpful and accommodating. The hikes were a bit challenging at times-not sure I would rate them as easy! I would definitely recommend good shoes/boots and poles. And the accommodations were so amazing! A very memorable trip-I would highly recommend.

Santa Marta and Colombia’s Lost City
Colombia
Our guide, Christian, on the Tayrona National Park coastal hike was very knowledgeable in all aspects both of the area and of the flora and fauna.
The local tour company was readily accessible once we were back to cell phone service after the Lost City hike. Especially when one of us became ill such that we needed to cancel our tubing experience.
The Hotel Jorara eco-hotel after the Lost City hike was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed a very large room and an open air Read More area beside the room to hang out in and relax. Very helpful staff.
Our first night hotel in Santa Marta was in a good location for walking on the malecon next to the water with easy access to the Museo del Oro as well. One complaint: our room was right above a bowling alley. Hmmm.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're delighted to hear that you found your trip well organized and enjoyed your experiences with our guides. We appreciate your suggestions for improvement and will certainly take them into consideration. Happy you had a great stay at Hotel Jorara and enjoyed the location of your first night hotel in Santa Marta, although we apologize for the inconvenience with the room location. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon!

Umbria - Culinary Walking Tour
Italy
We took this tour in mid-October and thoroughly enjoyed the hotels, towns, and special dinners included. Petra and Paolo gave us an arrival-night orientation which was very helpful and reassuring. This was our first self-guided tour with Tripsite. The hotels were truly lovely with hosts who were welcoming and accommodating. Their breakfasts were substantial. The three towns were new to us which was a delight.
Our walking directions were excellent. We did not take all the planned walks, choosing to walk other places that were particularly appealing to us.
We found Spello to be our favorite of these three towns and enjoyed immensely the wine-tasting dinner at Enoteco Properzio.
Spoleto was special for us because of the sister arts festival in our home town of Charleston, SC, selected by Menotti himself.
Any time we visit Umbria again, we will check in with Umbria & Ecologico Tours for guidance.
Many thanks to them and Tripsite for this self-guided tour of the region of Umbria.

The vistas were fantastic from all over Madeira. The two different sides of the island had two totally different water features. Some were rugged and straight into the water while others had calmer waters. The vegetation was beautiful. Very hilly which makes for dramatic views.

Umbria - Culinary Walking Tour

The GPX viewer app generally worked well for the walk. However, the estimated walk time should be increased to 3 hours for the Assisi to Spello walk & the difficulty increased to slightly challenging. After the walk to the winery, transportation should be supplied to Spello as people may not want to walk to Spello after Winery lunch & several glasses of wine.
The GPX viewer shows the location of the Winery stop as 1.1 km from the actual location of Tili 21 which is hard for the walkers after trekking from Assisi.
The next day’s walk through Collepino should specify that the final 1 km to Collepino is a steep uphill climb. Otherwise, a great experience all around.
Thank You

Spanish Way Camino de Santiago

We really enjoyed the experience walking these six days. The countryside was beautiful and the villages we passed through were scenic. It was interesting to see so many old structures along the route, many of them long since abandoned. We visited many of the small churches along the way and found them charming. At the end of each day we were tired, but not excessively so. We were very glad that we were not carrying packs and that we could look forward to a comfortable room each night. The lodging and food at Rectoral De Lestedo and La Casona De Nené in Arzua were exceptionally good. We thought that the Pousada De Portomarin was an interesting place, but was past its prime and needed updates. The Hotel Carlos 96 was also not to the level of the other hotels.

Walking the Camino de Santiago with my dear friends was an experience unlike any other. The path took us through time, meandering through stone villages and farms and absolutely breathtaking forests. We made new friends along the way and supported each other as we completed the journey. This trip allowed us to connect with each other, fellow pilgrims, and a beautiful part of Spain. Buen Camino!
