The trip itself was fine. My rating of 3 out of 5 is due to inexperienced cyclists in our group. My option is that this trip is not easy as advertised. Holland and Belgium are flat but wind and rain add to the difficulty level. Also, the trip involved crowded bike paths and urban cycling especially in Antwerp, Ghent and Brugge. Crowded cycle paths, cycling in traffic and cycling over tram tracks really freaked out some of our group. eBikes are not the answer. Our group had inexperienced cyclists on eBikes and they created the majority of the problems. There were at least seven falls from bikes during our week of cycling. That said, Marco and the staff of the Clare de Lune were fantastic as well as our guide, Annita.

How did the difficulty level compare to your expectations?
Harder than I expected because of crowded city streets, crowded cycle paths and having to wait for inexperienced cyclists in our group as well as anxiety issues from those in our group who were inexperienced cyclists.

Enjoyed the variation in scenery….through small villages, along canals, through parks, kinderdikes, along dam system, beaches and fields. Enjoyed that the biking extended throughout the day, with stops for coffee and lunch. Tours through the destination towns were interesting, but most businesses were closed, except for restaurants.

The first part of the tour was more difficult than anticipated because of the many hills. Feniks is the smallest of all the boats we have toured with and the accommodation was very cramped. We really enjoyed our fellow travellers - 4 Canadians and 8 Australians - and the boat's crew. Our guide, Seitse, who we have travelled with on a previous tour, is one of the best in the business.

This was hands down the most amazing trip ever. The boat crew (Mistique IV) was incredible, our bike tour guide (Marion) was wonderful, the scenery, the food, accommodations, everything was perfect. We will 100% be doing another tour with them.

When did you take this tour?
End of September - beginning of October
How did the difficulty level compare to your expectations?
I was nervous at first and wasn't sure what to expect since I'm not a regular rider but they really catered to your level offering different lengths of daily rides and the electric bikes they provides offered several levels of assistance so the riding intensity could be adjusted to suit the terrain. I couldn't have asked for a more scenic and enjoyable ride!

Beautiful scenery , routes and excellent coffee stops. Peter and Hans were excellent tour guides, chef Liam was outstanding and the support staff were great. Only suggestions would be to improve the quality of the bikes and a few more snacks after the rides . Pack gloves for your rides especially on fall trips
All in all our favorite bike trip

We elected to do self guided rides every day, this allowed us to stop and take photos, or explore as much as we wanted at each stop. The Ride GPS app worked great! We could confidently strike out on our own. Guides (Corry and Anna) answered any questions we had, to clarify stops, what to do, etc. before we set out. The evening tours were a bonus we enjoyed each day. The barge was way more luxurious than we expected. Every staff member was super nice, and took care of any request we had. The food (snacks, meals and drinks) were also beyond our expectations. We were glad we packed rain gear, as we needed it 3 days. E-bikes made the miles very manageable (we elected long route every day), and the provided dry bag panniers were greatly appreciated. My first trip to Europe, and I believe biking 180 miles allowed me to experience The Netherlands and Belgium way better than someone visiting only the big cities. I HIGHLY recommend this trip for anyone who likes to bike.

Staff were great and worked very hard for all of us during the week. Unfortunately strong winds kept us docked for a day so we lost a day riding north as planned and caused other changes in the itinerary which apparently is not common but can happen. Food was very good and enjoyable to meet others from other countries during social hours.

Bikes are the most important. The biking was amazing, the bikes we very disappointing, when you pay to rent a bike it needs to have better maintenance. We should not have to struggle with these bikes. The tour guide was of no help or no interaction I have been on many bike trip's never have we had such poor bikes.

The itinerary was fantastic! We loved every ride and every city/town/village along the way. All of the crew on DeHolland were excellent and our on board guide, Edith, was exceptional. Areas for improvement are the food (breakfast and lunch offerings were very repetitive with only one piece of fresh fruit offered per guest daily; most dinners were just acceptable but with mixed frozen vegetables served). No “local” traditional dinners were part of the meal offering like pancakes in The Netherlands or waffles or Flemish stew in Belgium. Also, for our cruise, the air conditioning system broke on day 2 on the main floor and could not be fixed - leading to no AC or heat for our floor the rest of the week. This was pretty disappointing. Overall, I would be hesitant to recommend the De Holland to friends (and also pause before recommending bike boat tour company). Please note the boat and meals get the 3 star rating. The crew and guide get 5 stars.

The boat and personal were 5 star and more. Our trip was very memorable and the sight seeing was spectacular. The cabin was clean and efficiently laid out. The food was underwhelming. Breakfast was very similar everyday unlike our experience with Rad & Reisen. Boiled eggs were served or runny scrambled eggs. Fresh fruit limited no strawberries (in Season or watermelon)No omelettes or pancake choices. Wine and beer selection was very limited and pricey 7.50Euros for a 1/2 glass of wine. Dinner included frozen vegetables on a few nights. Coleslaw with mayo on 3 nights for a salade selection. The food was efficiently presented and edible just not what I had expected or anticipated.

When did you take this tour?
Sept 2025 - loved it all - cabins were comfortable and clean and bathroom was larger than I anticipated and very updated. Crew was exceptional. Any request was quickly filled.
How did the difficulty level compare to your expectations?
We biked more km than I expected each day but I was able to complete each longer route with the assistance of the electric bike. With the headwinds the electric bike was a must for most of the 66 passengers. Those that had not booked ahead of time for the electric bike were pleased when one became available. Just makes the tour that much more enjoyable. I am on the wait list for a knee replacement and had no difficulty.

The bike riding was the most enjoyable part for me. The ride to Amsterdam was great. As was the stop by the beach on the way to Veere. Our Guide, Mike was so kind to provide us with evening tours in the beautiful small dutch towns. our chef Paolo was great with delicious dinners each evening. And the captain Paul was excellent and added a touch of humor to the trip.

How did the difficulty level compare to your expectations?
It was easy just like the description. But I am an experienced biker so I would have enjoyed going faster. But there were a few people who were not fully capable with the use of an E-bike and that slowed us down.

The ship and crew were top notch!! Wonderful experience. Our chef, Steven, came out at breakfast asking us for our meal choice that evening. He was an excellent cook. Gourmet food. Beautiful presentation and delicious. So nice being on smaller ship with only 35 passengers. The owner was our captain the last 5 days of the cruise. Very hospitable. Would highly recommend.

How did the difficulty level compare to your expectations?
Compared to the previous 2 trips we have done with your company, this trip proved to be a lot more arduous. The reason for this was the guide took us (22) into Ghent and expected us to cross tram tracks, ride in heavy traffic and somehow follow the leader when sometimes the group was broken up because of traffic lights etc. Once 5 people got completely left behind and had no way of knowing which road to take. My advice: keep unprepared cyclists out of large towns. We were all very shaken up by that experience. Other advice: give the guide a walkie talkie and the sweeper the same. The mobile phone was virtually useless in this situation. The guide should always be constantly checking the numbers behind him and stopping for rests. We were only given one stop to photograph a windmill when there were lovely places all along the route, but people felt inclined to keep going in case they were left behind.

Beautiful boat, great guides, responsive wonderful staff and very clearly a well run tour. I would highly recommend this tour. The bikes were well-adjusted right from the start and tour guides gave us a chance to trial a short ride the day of embarking...nice to have a choice as to longer or shorter rides each day, and lovely to have excursions to see special sites along the way.
