Rhine & Mosel By Bike & Boat Tour Reviews — 1 to 7 of 7

We were unable to do the Rhine portion of the trip due to low flows but it certainly wasn't missed. The trip along the Mosel was fabulous with its beautiful villages, castles, steep-slope vineyards, wineries, beer gardens and churches. The staff manning the boat were truly outstanding! The evening meals were above and beyond anything we typically eat (think high class restaurant) and even the morning meals were great. This was our second bike and barge trip, the first was along the Danube but I loved them equally as much. The bicycle riding routes took us through beautiful country. We used non-electric bikes but electric bikes might be recommended if you chose to go up to the castles located in the hills.

We had so much fun! This trip is great for a variety of mobility and fitness, as the trails are straightforward and easy terrain. You go past castle upon castle and through timber home towns. We went during the fall, so got to enjoy the crisp air and leaves changing. Very glad we planned ahead with the right layers. There were great options for activities and sights to see along the way. Make sure you do your research around operating hours, tickets, and what options there are to get there. We loved Eltz Castle and Cohem Castle. Some required hiking to get to. The tour operator offered a lot of additional activities as well that were really fun like a historical walking tour, wine tasting, and etc. They were very thoughtful to accommodate a variety of languages for us to join.

The places where we cycled were great, although the bike and e-bike weren’t very good and to complete we almost lost the boat cause nobody told us that the place where we were supposed to board had changed!

The scenery along the rivers was amazing. I enjoyed exploring the smaller towns along the routes. The daily organization for the bike routes was very well done.

The bikes were great and any issues were promptly resolved. Stunning scenery along both of these iconic rivers, quaint towns and small cities with gorgeous architecture, pleasant outdoor wine stops all make for an ideal adult cycling vacation. Most trails were flat and paved.

The biking each day was just the right length and rated correctly as ‘easy’. The side biking trips were worthwhile visiting.
I was very disappointed that the boat served no German wines. For that reason alone I would hesitate to recommend the trip.

The portion of the boat ride on the Mosel after leaving Koblenz where there was little or no populated areas was so peaceful and felt remote. The serving crew was was extremely helpful.responsive and efficient. I and others felt like the $20/ day “beverage” charges were a surprise and implied that even water and non- alcoholic beverages would be extra during meals without it.
