Bike + Boat Tour Reviews — 31 to 60 of 5074

The boat facilities were good and as described in the material. Quality of food was excellent and the staff on board were amazing - polite, helpful, friendly and the bar prices were quite reasonable. The two guides for the biking were similarly very helpful and friendly, making sure we understood the routes, our bikes were in good order etc. We were warned ahead of time that the biking involved a number of hills and strongly advised to stay with the recommended ebikes, which all of us did. We have been on a number of bike and barge trips in Germany, France, Holland etc and perhaps it is not fair to do a comparison, but we found the following differences:
Most of Croatia was on roads, and although not overly busy, compared somewhat unfavourably with the high quality and extensive bike path systems in other parts of Europe.
All other bike and barge trips involved a breakfast on the boat, then we would make our own bag lunches, leave around 9:00 and have a leisurely ride until noon, stop for an hour at a nice spot, eat lunch then bike for a few more hours before getting back to the boat for supper. In Croatia, it was fairly hard steady biking with most short stops out in the open and very little shade available. Although we were regularly told we could stop and take pictures any time we wanted, it felt like there was a push “get it done”. Most riders were in their 60’s and 70’s with some even older and a few did not do all of the rides.
On other ventures, we would typically have one supper off the boat at our own expense. On the Magellan, some rides were in the morning and some in the afternoon, but all lunches (excellent by the way) were on board and we were left on our own except for only two suppers on board. Bottom line is we had too much “free time” (ie not much to do except for a few ocean swims off the back of the boat), and the evening meal costs added up.
We had understood from others that the Croatian coast was beautiful with so much to see and while we were only exposed to a very limited part of Croatia, we were underwhelmed.
These comments are not meant to disparage Magellan, the guides and the other staff, but are based on our personal preferences.

Francois and Martin were absolutely fabulous. They provide a wonderful holiday. They showed extreme patience and deserve full points. We were a little disappointed with the ships meals. The last meal of the trip was very good. We were expecting that quality for the trip. When you are in France you expect French food.

We weren’t able to cruise to Bratislava or Budapest because of low waster. However, the crew worked extra hard to make sure we had a great experience. The cycling was great. The food and accommodations exceeded my expectations.

The dining experience provided by chef Peter was awesome. The captain, Winnie, and her fist mate, Marije, displayed great skill in piloting the boat and made all the guests confident in their ability to maneuver the boat. The hosts, Hille and Marije, were very accommodating at meeting all the guests needs. The bike tour guides, Anneke and Hester, were informative about the local area and always aware of the riders abilities.

This was the first time my husband and I did a trip like this and we are not experienced riders. We traveled with a group of 16 from Pittsburgh PA USA and had a blast! This is a beautiful, easy ride along the Danube. And even though the river level prohibited us from biking to Bratislava and Budapest we were given the option to go to each city by bus. We enjoyed exploring the towns along the bike paths and all of the time we had in Vienna. The crew on the Vivienne were outstanding! Providing what we needed without having to ask as they got to know us. We appreciated all of the tips that were provided each day for our tours and excursions. Thank you for giving us such a memorable trip!

Great mix of people from so many different countries. The food was delicious, but there was way too much of it. I felt very wasteful. Especially the first night, a 9 course meal starting at 8:00pm was way too much.

The crew was fabulous! Accommodations comfortable. Food was a good match for the price. The biking was as advertised.

The entire cruise was outstanding. From the whole crew to the food we ate, everything was great. The bike trips were awesome too. Special shoutout to all involved with doing our laundry since we unfortunately did most of the cruise with limited clothing due to lost luggage. We had a group of ten on the ship and everyone had a great time. Thank you.

Overall we enjoyed the trip the boat was comfortable, staff very friendly and attentive and the cycling along the Danube was very enjoyable. However as an English speaking couple we were disappointed that two of the advertised optional tours that we had booked did not have English speaking guides available so we were encouraged by the tour coordinator to cancel our booking for those tours. The tour coordinator did not offer and made no effort to make other arrangements for us. It was disappointing as these tours were advertised as part of the tour and optional extras. This meant that non German speaking guests were at a disadvantage.

This trip was very easy: the rides were short and flat. However, the landscape is not particularly interesting and the route is in full sun. The barge was very comfortable, the bikes were excellent and in perfect condition, the crew was friendly and helpful, and the food was outstanding.

We really enjoyed our boat and bike tour. We were however disappointed that we didn’t get to Bratislava and Budapest but was not the fault of Tripsite or the Primadonna. Water levels were just too low. My only complaint about the tour is that water was not included with dinner.

We loved seeing the sites and the Danube on the SE Manon. The biking was easy ,even with a non E bike and some congested areas near Vienna. Our highlights were Vienna, the Greinburg Castle, Melk Abbey. The route book provided our trip itinerary daily, and it was very helpful. Our cabin on the boat was comfortable and we enjoyed the full length sliding door which gave us fresh air, sunshine and beautiful views of the river, small towns, and many castles and abbeys. The history of the area was fascinating. Please be aware that you must have enough euro cash to take the ferries with your bicycles. Somehow I missed this information and the SE Manon was unable to help. We missed our first day of cycling primarily due to this. Also, we were two of four passengers who spoke English as our primary language. All tours were spoken in German, but we enjoyed our offshore adventures anyway.

This tour was changed last minute to Auvers to Moret due to drought conditions. It wasn’t as scenic as original. But the Claire de Lune was clean (our cabins were small but air conditioned!), her crew AMAZING, and our guide full of energy & enthusiasm. The chef was excellent x delicious food! The group on our tour was great, we all bonded quickly. Riding thru Paris was a little insane & scary but also invigorating and challenging - we all survived! Lol. My only complaint is the bikes have no bottle cages so you can only drink water when we stop, I sip constantly so that was a struggle. But overall, I would do it again!

The scenery was outstanding, the e-bikes enabled me to conquer the terrain which otherwise could not be done with a regular bicycle, and the food was most enjoyable.

The cruise director had very poor communication with the English speaking guests on the tour. People were lost and the navigation was sometimes tough to follow.

The great people we met, amazing country scenery/sights, fabulous meals, fantastic tour guides & staff on barge!!!

The crew, Ivan and Nikola, and guides, Mateo and Martina, were absolutely wonderful. They made ever effort to ensure we had a great time and all of our needs were met. The daily itinerary was perfect for most - most days was a hearty breakfast, then 2+ hours of challenging but not impossible biking throughout gorgeous scenery, then back to the boat for swim in the amazing Adriatic. The towns were welcoming and not crowded. The Capitan had to adjust the course due to weather, and it all worked out fine. The chefs made delicious home cooked meals. We had a below deck cabin, and it was just fine. Nothing fancy, but we didn't need that because we spent our waking moments on the boat on the sundeck, salon or bar. It was perfect for us - people who love to bike, swim, eat, and drink with good companionship.

Beautiful islands, boat, people, food…. Couldn’t ask for any more!

Cycling through windmills and into small villages was amazing. Guides were awesome. Stopping in local little cafes run by locals was a treat.

No biking experience unfortunately but we enjoyed the cruise and excursions

I loved the active travel! Cycling 30+ miles everyday, followed by touring in afternoons and evenings. This was an unguided tour, and I appreciated the balance between independent time and time spent in community. We met fun people and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of life on the boat. The Bike with GPS app worked great! We felt secure in our independent travel navigator.

We were supposed to do the Mosel but lack of water changed us to the Netherlands. Boat was very comfortable, chef was great and staff very warm and helpful. Owner graciously transported us to the starting point from our original location as well as back to the endpoint so that we could make our connections.

Although the trip was rerouted to The Netherlands I thoroughly enjoyed the biking and exploring the various cities that we rode through. All of the staff were wonderful.
It would have been nice to at least cruise an hour or two on the barge. If you biked every day this did not happen. Other than that it was a wonderful experience.

Our guide, Ana, brought the local history and culture to life through her vast knowledge and love of Croatia. Everyone on the crew was friendly and effective at their jobs. Beautiful country, coastal towns, etc.

My wife and I set out on this trip not sure what to expect - WOW, we were blown away by the experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone. From the boat to the crew to the other guests, everything was great! I also felt the amount of bike riding was well balanced with downtime, exploring the cities we visited, and other activities. It was a good value for money, considering food, lodging, and activities for 8 days.

There were great moments of the bike rides, the other guests on the ship were very nice and it was a pleasant experience. The staff did an excellent job in taking care of the needs of the passengers, from my experience with them. I will say the daily maps of the bike ride were confusing and the app didn't always seem to work well. It was disappointing to have to take a bus to Budapest but I understand the river levels wouldn't allow the ship to travel that far without running into the possibilities of getting stuck. I thought our Cruise Director Jurgen could have spent more time reviewing the bike paths, especially on the last day around Passau. The loop was confusing. Overall, I had a great time!!!
