The itinerary route and stopping off points (hotel locations) were mostly very enjoyable, and the distances between stops were very manageable with the E-bikes (I think manual bikes would be challenging for most people in their mid/late 60s). For some of the destinations, we would have welcomed the opportunity to book an additional night to give more time for walking around, sightseeing, and catching a meal not too late in the day.

Attaching several additional nights at both ends of our tour worked out very well, and we were very grateful to our tour agent, Sophie, for working patiently with us to make this possible (our bike tour was ‘sandwiched’ in between an additional week staying elsewhere in each of Belgium & Germany).

In general, our E-bikes worked out well—they were comfortable, and the batteries never came close to running out. However, occasionally they would fail to provide the necessary ‘boost’ for starting up the occasional hill or ramp. They are also quite heavy to maneuver at slow speeds—when making u-turns, parking or locking up. Also, the panniers (one each) were a little smaller than those provided on our previous TripSite bike tours, and only just accommodated our modest sized (daypack) backpacks, along with the essential bike tools and battery chargers.

The hotel options we chose were all nice (we went with the upgraded options when available), with very nice breakfasts. Hotel NH Bruges was particularly well-located for strolling into the city; our room in the Fletcher Hotel Arion in Vlissingen was particularly nice; and while the Westcord Art Hotel in Amsterdam was located quite far out, a bus stop located close to the hotel entrance provided a good service into the city (and a much-needed laundromat located within easy biking distance).

Our TripSite agent, Sophie, was very helpful, friendly and responsive—especially in helping with our hotel choices and ‘additional night’ bookings. However, our baggage allowance information was provided far too close to the date of our departure (we left a week before the actual trip, having decided to visit several other towns in Belgium prior to the start of the tour). Without being able to do much about it, we discovered that the actual baggage allowances—one bag per person weighing 20kg max—would be insufficient, considering we were flying from North America and adding an additional week to our European itinerary before and after the actual bike tour. Our previous TripSite bike tours (in Germany) never imposed such a strict limit. With barely a few days to spare, we contacted TripSite management, who—to their credit and our great relief—provided a simple and effective solution for us, such that we could each include a smaller (carry-on) bag in addition to our suitcases.

The “Guibo” bike navigation phone App worked extremely well on our iPhones, and only very occasionally did it actually lead us the wrong way, or display confusing information. On three occasions the designated route was completely blocked and shut-off for road construction, but we were able to find workarounds (one turned into a bit of a cross-country adventure), and one of the recently changed hotel locations had not been updated in the app.  SHOW MORE 

There wasn't one memorable moment, the whole trip was amazing. We stayed in some beautiful hotels a mix of modern and quirky. The routes were brilliant and the connectivity of the cycle paths and smooth surfaces was second to none. The people were friendly, the whole route was so pro cycling and cycle friendly there were no issues with traffic. The scenery was stunning and changed as we progressed through the tour. The recommended things to see were always interesting and the towns we stayed in were beautiful. The regional food was lovely, and the trip was superbly organised, we are now planning our next adventure

We have done dozens of self guided bike trips all over the world. And I have to say that this trip is easily in our top three. The bikes were exceptional, we had one E bike and one gravel bike. Both were in top condition and had no issues over our nine day trip. The route utilized Ride with GPS, which is a very intuitive and easy system to follow. There were no problems with navigation anywhere on the trip despite several areas having construction or alternate pathways available. The route took us into and through many small villages rather than around the edges, which allowed us to see the charming village centers and stop for a coffee along the way.
All of the accommodations for this trip met or exceeded our expectations.
The staff at the beginning and end of the ride were lovely to deal with.
We cannot recommend this tour enough! You do need to be prepared for some longest days and some days with steep climbs. There are ways to avoid the steeper areas, but with these exceptional bikes, we did not find them too challenging.

What lovely countryside to bike through, we would gladly do it again!

The rides were fabulous, the food on the ship fantastic, crew very kind and accommodating, can’t wait to do another ride

Hard to pick one thing, but like any great trip it starts with the staff - from the boat captain and crew to the tour guides. All were helpful, friendly, and knowledgable. The boat itself is well designed. It's comfortable and easy to get around on. I have one easy to fix suggestion: It would be nice if the boat included name tags and asked guest to wear the first day or two. Meeting 30 fellow guest and the seven person staff was a lot.

We thought that the app Ride with GPS (after a bit of help with setup and use) was very clear accurate and we had no problems following the route. Accompanying information about places to visit was also good, and we were happy with the accommodations.
Overall, a successful and enjoyable trip.

PS. A small issue - the Romantik Bülow Residenz in Dresden was closed when we arrived just after 5pm, and we had to hunt around to find out that we needed to go to the main hotel about 200 metres up the street to get our keys and find out where to put the bikes. There was no warning about 5pm closure.

The most memorable part of the trip was the biking. It was a lot of fun and very challenging at times. The islands we visited were absolutely beautiful, and we loved sailing and swimming in the ocean.

The ship was nice, although the cabins were very small for two people. Having the towels changed only once during the week was also a challenge because they never seemed to fully dry.

However, the food on the ship was outstanding and absolutely delicious. The entire crew was very helpful, friendly, and fun, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Our tour guides, Tom and Marco, were especially wonderful. They were caring, attentive, knowledgeable, and always made sure everyone was doing well. They went above and beyond to make the biking experience enjoyable and memorable.
The people we meet on the ship were fun and everyone enjoyed each other.

Overall, it was a fantastic trip filled with beautiful scenery, challenging rides, wonderful food, and great people. The biking, sailing, and time spent on the islands made it a truly memorable experience

A wonderful tour! Beautiful sea views, quiet roads and lots of bike paths. Rarely had to worry about cars. Our guides spoke great English, were very knowledgeable of the area and were fun to be with. I highly recommend this tour.

Outstanding crew - Guides, Captain, chef, housekeeper and assistant. The crew were hardworking and just made the guests interested in participating and getting to know eachother and sharing this 2 week adventure.

Guides were awesome! Engaging when they needed to and extremely helpful. Never had Croatia on our “Bucketlist” but that has changed as we will be coming back next year!

Excellent vacation! The best of both worlds- great sights and great way to see them! The biking was fabulous through Croatia and I highly recommend it!

Where do you start? The trip was absolutely amazing. The country, the scenery and the animals in their natural habitat are beyond description. We loved the reserves we stayed at and eating local meals cooked over the fires. Wendel and Virgilio were amazing guides as they took care of every need from the bikes, transportation, guiding, cooking, sharing local information. Lizelle was a most gracious host. We particularly enjoyed being greeted by and going on a morning walk with a cheetah.
We rented e-bikes which keeps biking the terrain easy and enjoyable. Note that the level of biking is based on weather and may also be limited to the ability of other riders. The variety of biking was wonderful. We also really enjoyed out trip extension to Pungwe. It was a remote wilderness experience. Have been recommending this trip to all our friends!!!

We had a great time once again on the Iris. The crew and guides were the best. Train travel on the weekends can be tricky but not impossible because of scheduled track maintenance. Electric bikes are always the best choice no matter what.

This tour was well organized. Although the tour spanned two countries with two different tour companies, we didn't encounter any problems. Our tour guides and the supporting staff were very professional. This tour took me to see places in Vietnam and Cambodia that I would never have seen otherwise. The accommodations at each stop were very comfortable and worth the money paid. The food ranged from good to incredible. The guides provided adequate fluids and healthy snacks along the route each day. This tour was worth the cost.

What a fantastic trip! The food was delicious and the crew was great! Japka and Carol were the best guides!

The scenery , routes, daily mileage and top shelf guide along with a gracious driver were all reasons that I would rate this trip as a lifetime achievement adventure.. Learning about the history of each country, coupled with visits to the various historic sites made this trip come to life. Each hotel along with several that had extensive spas made the after bike ride relaxing and enjoyable..

Excellent tour! We would do it again! We experienced great guides, food, locations to cycle, beautiful countryside and towns, and amazing boat and staff. Each day kept getting better than the last!

We loved the experience of living on the barge with its incredible team that ensured a comfortable, clean, professional and friendly atmosphere. The cycling guides were A-one, very helpful and gave interesting historical information on the sites visited. There were seven people in our travel group. It was fun meeting and socializing with the other travellers. I will definitely recommend this trip to friends and family.

The laughs and camaraderie with friends new and old were such a special part of this boat and bike trip. The boat was well appointed and the crew and guides were wonderful.

The rides were challenging and provided great physical activity along with scenic views. Would definitely do this trip again.

The Bellezza, the crew and the tour guides were all excellent. They handled the changes in itinerary due to harbor construction and wild fires professionally and efficiently. The meals were top quality, the bike tours were safe. The scenery and experience were most excellent.

Biking through the vineyards and little towns in Austria Simply spectacular views and see the town up close made the trip one to remember

This was one of the best group trips we have ever taken. The boat (Magnifique IV) was well laid out and equipped, and the bikes were comfortable - regular and e-bikes. The guiding by Erna and Bert, was superb - interesting, fun, competent. The food, with Chef Alet, was outstanding- dinners were like those in a high end restaurant. The professional Captain (Gerard) and crew members (Gabriella, Maddy, and Alberto) were kind and did everything to make our trip safe and enjoyable. The routes, scenery, and stops were wonderful- fascinating with beautiful countryside and town views. The program and staff worked to encourage a wonderful comraderie among guests. But the end of the trip, our rides ran like a well oiled machine with warm friendships developing. The Belgian and Dutch people were warm and welcoming. Just the best trip!

The trip was full of so many wonderful sights, tastes, conversations, and history. I couldn't pick a favorite. The crew of seven all did a wonderful job.

The dinner time was my favorite time. Meeting and enjoying the atmosphere of everyone around me. The bike rides were wonderful. The sites of the towns and countryside were out of this world. Would love to book another biking experience. John M.
